Live excerpts from RELEASE 01

April 9th, 2010

As a taster for what’s to come on April 17th at Beursschouwburg I’ve compiled a podcast with the recordings of our event last October. You’ll hear, in this order, i-Sa, Infinitskills, JtotheC, Dynooo and San Soda. I’ve taken the first 20 minutes or so of every gig and glued that together. Listening back to it I still feel immensely proud of the line-up we put together that day and how they all came with tight sets.

Dynooo, Infinitskills and San Soda had already proven themselves with a couple of releases before that day in October but for the latter 2 it was their first real live gig. All three have since expanded their spectrum considerably. Dynooo released his ‘Gum Dragon EP’ and did quite a few gigs, San Soda is conquering the world of House music by storm and will release an album later this year and Infinitskills took their live-show to new levels even getting booked in Moscow.

JtotheC did his first live gig ever at our event. After that it went fast. A 7”, gigs everywhere, sponsorship deals, … . the works. Haha. Even peter Lesage aka Moiano plays in his band now. He became a much needed funky addition to the Belgian music-scene. Getting better with every gig he plays.

i-Sa became Uphigh Collective and stayed relatively silent until just now. Their ‘Blend’, which will be released on a split 7” with Title on On-Point Records on April 17th, is getting massive props, even on national radio, and promises a bright future. Expect live gigs from them soon.

We don’t claim to be responsible for anyone’s success. All honour goes to the artists themselves. We’re only the proud uncles seeing that all the support we gave them, because we felt they deserved it, gets more widespread. We only put the artists we select on a stage so they get noticed a bit easier, from then on they need to do it themselves (but we do know they’ve got it in them to deliver, let that be sure).

Next RELEASE will happen at Beursschouwburg on April 17th (free entrance) with gigs by 72Soul + band, Title + Delvis, SubReachers & Shepherd + Isa Lain / dj-sets by Sensiloop & Lowdjo / Visuals by Narkoba, Visual Kitchen & Brat P. Milk / Artwork by Adèle Renault, François Tusseki, Fahar, Kenson, GHOZZA & Wahiba Khadri.

Spotlight on 72Soul

April 9th, 2010

Second spotlight will be on 72Soul. Even if I tried I couldn’t put it in words as well as he did on his blog. Do check his ‘Don’t call it a comeback’ to know his(s)tory.

At our event he’ll be on stage with a full live band. Giving his MC’ing, singing, crooning, … over beats a new dimension. That’s what we like. Being surprised and not exactly getting what we expected. Come early as they start first around 10pm.

Band:
Peter Beda – vocals
Roxy Plas – vocals
Brise Legrain – vocals
Anthony Marcon – bass
Benjamin Tequi – drums
Lucien Fraipont – guitar
Viktor Abel – keys
Erik Bogaerts – tenor sax
Dynomitesoul Reck & Vinnie Bass – scratches

Visuals will be provided by you if you respond to his call for videos of bedroom scenes (you make it as explicit as you want, haha).

If you need links to sounds, blogs or fanpages of the many aliases Peter has made music under they’re all in the column on the right of his story.

Echodub Loves Volume 2

April 8th, 2010

This nice free compilation has a track by SubReachers, who play at our event, on it. Check it out, download it and memorise it so you can sing along on April 17th. Haha. (59D58WB9A3QF)

Title In The Mix

April 7th, 2010

Title In The Studio by Ondasonora on Mixcloud

Title was invited by the Onda Sonora cats to do a mix in their radio show. There’s also little chats with him and Delvis (singer part of the UpHigh Collective and who’ll be joining Title on stage at our event). If you want to download the mix you can do that here.

Spotlight on Shepherd, Isa Lain and Brat P. Milk.

April 7th, 2010

First spotlight on artists participating to RELEASE. I bundle these names because they’ll do their thing together. Shepherd banging wicked music out of his laptop, Isa Lain managing the mic-duties and Brat P. Milk providing the visuals.

Shepherd is probably the most accomplished musician on our stage. Label boss of the fine Umbrelladelika! records, veteran of the underground Brussels nightlife and recording artist not only under the name you’ll find on our bill but also as, a bit cheeky, Harry Poppins. This might seem in contrary to our ‘let’s promote young, unknown bedroom artists’ philosophy but that’s just because the word ‘fresh’ is more appropriate than ‘young’ and we think Shepherd is by far not as widely known as he should be. If you try to argue with the bedroom part you’re just being foolish.

You’ll find his music on the first Umbrelladelika! & Caoutchou compilations (as Harry Poppins) and on a free digital EP on the UK based label Acroplane. That last one’s an absolute banger. Check it out. If you like it be sure to check his Soundcloud for more yummy sounds.

On stage at our event he will be joined by Isa Lain aka MC Sativa, a female MC who gained her reputation mostly in the Drum ‘n Bass, Ragga / Jungle and Breakcore scene.

Brat P. Milk on the other hand will add visuals to the sounds produced on stage. Check out the videos on his myspace to get an idea what to expect. He’s also a member of the I&I Relations crew who’ve build up quite a reputation as organisers of fine multimedia events like the Global Local Festival.

Speaking of events. On Wednesday April 21th Umbrelladelika & S.H.O.W. present an audiovisual night at de beursschouwburg. If you like our concept you’ll certainly dig that. Check the flyer for the needed info.

Hooked Up

April 2nd, 2010

Infinitskills – Hooked up (prod. by LuiGi) by LaidBack

A treat to end the week. LuiGi from Laid Back / Infinitskills who performed at our first event gives away a tune he made for free. Enjoy.

More 72Soul …

April 1st, 2010

The man needs video footage of you in bed. See him explain why in the video on top of this post …

1/ FILM yourself in bed during one minute.
2/ USE your imagination and BE yourself*
3/ Use a digital photo camera (webcam is good too but lesser quality)
4/ UPLOAD the video on Wetransfer.com
5/ SEND the video to 72soul@gmail.com

72Soul on Laid Back Radio Show

April 1st, 2010

One of the artists performing his music live at our event, 72 Soul, was invited by the Laid Back crew to talk about his work and his upcoming gig in their radio studio. Listen to it on their Mixcloud. Find all the info you need plus some links to songs of the man here.

TITLE / UPHIGH COLLECTIVE 7″

March 31st, 2010

Shortly after the first RELEASE On Point Records’ first 7” dropped with 3 tracks by JtotheC, who played at that event, including a remix by LuiGi of Infinitskills fame who also performed on our stage that day.

The second single on the label will be out on April 17th and it will be, once again, a firmly RELEASE-tinted one. Not only because that is the day of our second event at Beursschouwburg but also because the 2 artists on the new 7” have a strong bond with our baby. Title will perform at the next happening and UpHigh Collective is an extended version of i-Sa who gigged last October.

Title’s ‘Caravan’ will sound familiar for those following us. We’ve used it in our teaser video and it got played a lot by all RELEASE related DJs. The flip ‘Blend’ is a heavy forward thinking vocal Soul tune. Check LeFtOoO’s show on Studio Brussel for the full version. Snippets from both tracks can be found on the On-Point site.

Obviously the 7” will be available at our event … .

Merchandise For Sale

March 30th, 2010

At RELEASE on April 17th at Beursschouwburg we’ll have a merchandising stand where labels and artists related to our event will sell vinyl, CDs, t-shirts, artwork and more. So far On Point Records, Dynooo / MacFly & Umbrelladelika Records have confirmed they’ll put some stuff for sale in our little shop but that’s just the start.

If you are an artist or label that fits into our local bedroom philosophy and you’ve got work or merchandising for sale, contact us so we can sell them for you at our event.
