Radio Show 11/04/2017 – Modern Jazz In Belgium Special – Lander Lenaerts in the Studio.

A show about Jazz with an emphasis on records made by local men between 1950 and 1970. We have Lander Lenaerts, who some of you will know as The Jazz Kid, in our studio to talk about the “Let’s Get Swinging – Modern Jazz in Belgium 1950 – 1970” which will be out on the ever more excellent SDBan records this weekend. As the man who compiled this exquisitely executed collection of tracks made by fellow countrymen a good 50 years ago and who wrote the extensive liner notes he seemed the perfect guy to invite. On top of that it had been too long since he came to the BRUZZ HQ and we hadn’t seen him in ages. After the short talk we had with him we handed over the decks to let him further introduce the record and elaborate on the theme through a mini-mix.

After releasing superb retrospectives on André Brasseur and Réné Costy and continuing documenting our country’s musical history the way they did with the “Funky Chicken: Belgian Grooves From The 70’s” compilations SDBAN Records is releasing a double LP / double CD (same tracklist on both, by the way) with tracks made by Belgian jazzmen made between 1950 and 1970. Expect music by Jack Sels, Jacques Pelzer, Bobby Jaspar, Philip Catherine, Francy Bolland and others. Some tracks previously only available to only a very select few as they were recordings made for Belgian radio only pressed on vinyl in very limited quantities to be played in radio shows. The gatefold sleeve holds plenty of info about it all in the extensive liner notes (we love records like this to bits) inside and outside it is graced by a fantastic artwork made especially for this by Belgian abstract painter and jazz critic Luc Hoenraet. If you want to read more about this artist or anything jazz in Europe related we happily point you towards Lander’s excellent “Jazztime Europe” blog which is the sort of online source of information on music only far to rare these days. A work of passion and love.

Anyway, enjoy the radio show. The interview is in Dutch but the music defies languages. 🙂
